In the top of the fifth inning of the 2025 KBO League exhibition game against the KIA Tigers at Sajik Stadium in Busan on the 9th, Park Jin took the mound after starting pitcher Charlie Barnes and showed a perfect pitch by hitting six batters in two innings without hitting. 

Park grounded out Lee Woo-sung, who faced off as the first batter, and Kim Tae-gun, who followed him, respectively. The decisive ball was a 143-km/h four-seam fastball. With two outs and no runners on base, Park also struck out Choi Won-joon, who faced off, with a ball count of two balls and two strikes, neatly blocking the first inning. 

In the top of the sixth inning, when the score was 0-0, Park Jin-young made a three-out inning. Park Chan-ho, who faced off as the first batter, handled a fly ball to center field with his second fastball, and Kim Sun-bin also induced a fly ball to right field with his second fastball of 142 km/h. In the game against Kim Do-young, who was the best hitter in the KBO League in 2024 last season, Park displayed sliders and curves first, and then used three consecutive fastballs to produce an infield fly ball. Park Jin-young was replaced by pitcher Song Jae-young ahead of Lotte's defense in the top of the seventh inning. 

Park Jin-young made a strong impression by playing in three games as a substitute starter in September last year. Notably, he displayed good pitching by allowing one run in six innings at the Gwangju game on Sept. 25, and garnered a decisive victory in his showdown with opposing ace Yang Hyeon-jong as a starter, drawing keen attention.  

Park Jin-young was a candidate for the Lotte Giants' fifth starting pitcher this season. Park took the mound in the top of the second inning of a game against the Taiwan World Baseball Classic (WBC) national team on April 13 with no outs and a double play to minimize run loss, and displayed his potential by blocking two innings afterwards. He only gave up one run during 7 2/3 innings in a practice game for the spring camp. 

However, Lotte manager Kim Tae-hyung has chosen Na Kyun-an as the fifth starting pitcher instead of Park Jin-young. The intention was to give Na Kyun-an, who has served as the starting pitcher since 2022, a chance to win. Park is likely to take over as a long reliever in the first team or continue his starting class in the second team. 

The match against KIA on Sunday was the first exhibition game that took place under such a circumstance. He marked six consecutive hits against Kia's "defending champion" sluggers with fastballs, appealing to Lotte again. The power of the ball that he displayed by handling Kim Do-young's infield fly ball made Lotte fans excited.
